Foreign tongues a key to global competence: German envoy
NEW DELHI: The German ambassador to India on Saturday expressed confidence that post the meeting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the top leadership of Germany, India will find a way to continue offering foreign language courses to schools.
Ambassador Michael Steiner said that it is important to learn foreign languages and hoped that Indian students will not be deprived of this global tool. He also stressed that India-Germany collaboration is not just about language and that his country's experience in cleaning the Rhine could be helpful on Modi's mission of cleaning up the Ganga.
Steiner was chief guest at the interschool German language festival "Namaste Deutschland" 2014 where he distributed the certificates to the toppers in German language from various schools.
