IN SEARCH OF THE LOST TEMPLAR TREASURE

poor Knights of Christ, who became the richest monks in the world

The Knights Templar ran the first banking-system in Europe. The organisation that started out with 9 French noble-men, grew to a total of 50.000. Warrior-monks, but even more, civil-servants running the growing estate of the Order, factories, mills and traffic, they invested in.

The Knights financed local warfare and the enterprises of Kings. Preparing for war costs an awful lot of money. Just like nowadays, so to say.

Loans with an enormous interest. The European royalty got deeper and deeper into debt. The Templars influence and control mounted, which led to their downfall and extinction by the hands of the Pope and the king of France, Philip the Fair.

The material gain for the King was minimal, though he confiscated Templar Lands, within his territory.

The treasure of the Templars was said to be immens, but it went up in smoke.

The name of the Order of the Knights Templar derives from the period the Knights stayed in Jerusalem. They made camp among the ruins of King Solomons Temple on Temple Mount.

Historians confirm, that the Knights started digging there, probably in search for the treasure of King Solomon. After 9 years, the 9 knights returned to France. If they found any treasure or religious relic, they kept it a secret. Speculations about the hiding-place, the Copper Scroll mentions places in and around Jerusalem, where 200 tons of gold, relics and scrolls are hidden. The search that followed after its discovery at Qum'ran, was unsuccessfull, sofar.

If there is a lost treasure of the Templars, it might, when discovered, contain not only gold, silver and precious stones, but also lost ancient artefacts, as the Holy Grail, the Arc of the Covenant, a second Shroud of Turin or a Baphomet, a “talking head.”
