The
Irony of History
In
1907. the young Adolf Hitler moved from Linz, his birthtown, to
Vienna, the capital of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. His goal was to
enter the Academy of Fine Arts and to become an artist, but he was
rejected. The director later-on stated that, though Adolf showed some
talent in drawing landscapes and buildings, he was uncapable of
drawing human beings.
Soon
Hitler ran out of money and he joined the “army” of the homeless
in the Austrian capital. In the winter he slept in a shelter, in
summer on parkbenches and in railway-stations. During the daytime he
painted and drew pictures of the magnificent architecture in Vienna.
Hitler tried to sell them to tourists, but with little success.
Fortunately 3 Viennese artdealers (Jewish!) accepted ad sold his
work. It was not enough to rent a room, so the future Fuhrer,
frequentely used the homeless-shelter. Here he got befriended with
Jews again, young men who volunteered in the shelter.
One
of them, Josef Neumann, a Hungarian Jew, even saved his life. In one
of the fierce Austrian winters, Hitler lost his coat and had no money
to replace it. Josef Neumann bought him one. If not, Adolf Hitler
would not have survived the freezing cold.
Later
on his life, Hitler blamed the Jews for his rejection from the
Viennese Academy of Fine Arts.
“A
conspiracy the Jews will regret.”
